SOIL PHYSICS
Water transfer analysis
Soil water potential measurements
GEO-TECHNICS
Water flows in unsaturated soils
Known as the original method to measure water potentials in soils, the tensiometer has become an easy to use and very handy tool for field research in agronomy & agriculture. The STM 2150 is based on the mercury manometer principle and is at the same time very cheap and robust. This measuring principle, easy to set as well as very precise, will certainly bring you much help in the laboratory as much as in the field. Its life time is very long and it doesn't need much upkeep work. By simultaneously using tensiometer tubes which breakdown values are very high, you will be abble to conduct your far away experimentations without having to refill the tensiometers all the time. To sum up, a simple manual equipment, very accurate, inexpensive and very robust.
Key Advantages
EASY TO USE
VERY HIGH ACCURACY
ROBUST (>10 years)
INEXPENSIVE
Disadvantages
Use of mercury
Sensitive to heat : the capillaries must be burried in the soil.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
With 5 capillaries set on the same face of the mast, the user can directly know the different directions of the water flows in the soil (evaporation, percolation etc...).
The STM 2150 system is a set of pieces which, once put together, make the mercury manometer tensiometric system presented below .
The pieces are made out of treated steel (zinc and chromium plated), plastic and Nylon.
The capillary tubing linking the tubes to the mercury container is specially U.V. radiation protected and thus keeps its transparency trough time (type 16 Nylon).
The tensiometers are delivered complete (stopper, rivet, joint, collar) but can as well be delivered naked (or in detail, see below).
Ruler graduation : in millibars (= hPa).
Graduation color: green
The system can not have more than 5 channels connected to one mast.
